Coorg - A week-end getaway from Bangalore!

Madikeri in Coorg offers respite from the noise, pollution, concrete jungle that is Bangalore.

How to reach (budget options):
KSRTC buses: Helpful for those on a shoe string budget. Read the next option, if buses flying down pin bend turns, makes you queasy.

Indian Rail: If travelling at midnight does not make you squeal like crazy or look behind your back, every nano second then opt for a passenger train. Starts at Bangalore City Junction at 12 a.m  to reach Mysore. You can pray the scheduled arrival time gets delayed, like me, it happens to be 04.00 am. Praying for such delays doesn't work though! If you sleep like a log, don't worry, the porters and tea sellers will ensure you wake up after the train is deserted. Hop on to a bus headed towards Madikeri, from Mysore Bus Stand (1 k.m from Mysore Railway Station).

Coorg the land of Coffee, spices and oranges lies two and a half hours away.

Destination: Shanti Estate, Madikeri
In two hours and forty five minutes from Bangalore, you land in Coorg, the place of coffee, spices and oranges. Temperature takes a dip, so make sure you are carrying a nice jacket to stay warm. Enjoy the crisp mountain air and cloudy nights. Enjoy the melody of the invisible insects which plays nonstop, dawn to dusk non stop like noisy bird chatter.

The staff is warm and able to interact with visitors irrespective of language barriers. We tried their coffee, it smelt heavenly and tasted much better than CCD/Barista).

The food is by default hot, goes well in a cold place like Coorg.
Surprisingly delicious vegetarian cuisine was served in the morning.

Go ahead just go to Madikeri in the Western Ghats. Enjoy hot meals and hot cuppa to chase away winter blues.

Venice of the east- UDAIPUR- city of lakes

Udaipur city is one of the best hill stations in India though some of you might be not in the mood to believe this. Most of us Indians who are not from Rajasthan state which also gives shelter to the great Thar desert. Then comes the obvious conclusion that Rajasthan is a desert like place all over and apart from sand and dry heat plus cactus, this is where we have gone wrong. When I came to Udaipur for my one and a half year debacle with an NGO job i just saw how wrong i was. The place has beautiful lakes spread out all over the city which also fulfill the drinking water requirement of its people. In addition it has settled right among the Arravali /\/\/\/\/\/\/\ range. So it has the most beautiful treasure of biodiversity and every nature lover -indian or foreign should drop by and try out the following scenic places. one more wrong notion that i would like to nip in the bud is that of Rains- rainy season is the most beautiful in the region that just adds to the sheen of the green i...

Why do certain NGOs always oppsose?

When India became a democratic country and every body got this birth right to speak anything that was on thier minds the forefathers didnot realise that beyond a certain extent whatever is said will be crap! That is what i think is happening to people in NGOs today. They make a hue and cry over any darned thing that doesnt fit into their fantasy world. It starts with just a plain cribbing over a particular issue about which they cant do anything actually that can be called concrete! Then from their they issue orders to subordinates to collect info on the same so that they can pour over it and waste taxpayers money in various un imaginable forms. Finaly the government is coaxed to give a bit of attention the buckets of crap that is put infront of it by these NGOs and pass an line them in queue for potential discussion of mitigation of the crap especially since of these people of come out as the front line guards for environment conservation. Take the forest right act of 2007. Opposition...
