Delusions from College to Work

Blessed are the days, when you are Young and Naive!

Age 19: Psychology is so cool. You don't need to mug it up. You just happen to have stored in long term memory, all Freudian concepts, involuntarily, by the time you finish graduation. You think, it is such a perfect vocational course. The only one in humanities that makes you job ready! Go on laugh now, I know what you are thinking! I couldn't help it either. Like I said, blessed are those days, when you were young and naive.

Age 22: Getting in those prestigious Hospitals specializing in mental health seems ridiculously competitive. You wonder if you have a chance against the remaining 9,99,999 applicants to MA Psychology.

Age 25: MA in Psychology seems to have turned your clear milk like mind into curd! Clearly not what you had expected, after having invested 5 bloody years into college education! You cannot seem to understand how saving the mental equilibrium of others is a reliable livelihood source, considering, it churns up your own mental equilibrium.

Age 32: Applying for jobs in Counselling comes as a rude shock to the those approaching middle age.  Capable of sending even the best trained counselors to the insanity ward for rehab and definitely into poverty! Why? Are you still asking why? See the job advert below :)

The fine line between hypocrisy and advocacy.

The experienced hot shot : climate change is essential! Its going to ruin the entire future! (AND MY STOCK EXCHANGE MONEY) The lowly subordinate : yeah sure sir you bet we agree on that-climate change is going to have a diverse impact on livelihoods. The experienced hot shot : (irritated) ah well do whatever you were asked to do this morning and don’t forget to book my flight by business class and don’t forget to mention that airconditioned luxury car in our UNDP budget for climate change project. The lowly subordinate : Well if I may ask……why do ‘we’ want an AC car sir? The experienced hot shot : arrrrrrrrrrrrrrh growls, scowls and many ageing frowns later—have you ever understood the term; using for future investment {from a funder’s money}? Do you want to take that expense of the Mercedes C class from your salary? The lowly subordinate: ah well! (Gulp) now that you have made crystal clear I don’t think Sir there is anything left in the grey area but d...

Visiting the land of Aqua farming - Bhimavaram, Andhra Pradesh

I was on a work trip from Hyderabad (Telangana) to Bhimavaram by train.  Unlike other train journeys, which involve travelling overnight and eventually missing the dropping point due to a good nights sleep, this one was plagued with a co-passengers plagued with bed bugs in Indian Railways, Third AC berths. Yes those blood sucking monsters exist and thrive in Indian Railways! No I am not a senior citizen, writing about a train journey to AP in the 80s / 90's. Its 2017 and already December. Co-passengers : Aunty, Uncle and a boy. Aunty and Uncle on Lower berth. Boy on the middle berth. Me on the middle berth too. Sandwiched between aunty and another interesting player on the top berth. Cursing my luck for not getting any other seat, i decided to try sleeping to wake up fresh. The boy falls asleep, peacefully, snoring away to glory! Some very audible talking by Aunty in Telugu, or some south Indian language continues with Uncle. Seems to be they are in a happy mood, cross ...

Uncle Sam's Pizza

Udaipur - well known as the CITY OF LAKES didnot have a genuine Pizza outlet till November 07. Come 2008 and on my way from the railway station of Udaipur i see a shining board amongst some dirty travel boards. I stopped my friend immediately and we went back to check if it was really genuine! So we went back and found those round- without back support shiny little stools or chairs if you want to call them and some 4 young men eagerly searching our faces to check if we fell in the window shoppers group or just curious passers by. So we placed a delicious order of Vegi delight pizza and and some Garlic cheese bread with Jalapeno topping. So they seemed to have authentic ovens for pizza and when it came out i ll tell you how it looked and smelled but you gotta try it on your own to believe me. The waitor came with the pizza in a thermocol plate and nonbiodegradable plastic glass. Apart from that The small mushrooms just tender enough to melt in the mouth, the Green capsicum, and the oran...
